.villa Domain Registration
Why Choose a .villa Domain?
The .villa extension was launched by Donuts (now Identity Digital) as part of the new gTLD programme, aimed squarely at the holiday rental, luxury property and architectural design markets. It is unrestricted, so any owner, agent or designer of a villa-style property can register one. The word translates cleanly across English, Italian, Spanish, French and Portuguese, which makes it particularly useful for Mediterranean and Caribbean rental businesses targeting an international clientele.
Ideal for:
- Holiday rental owners and villa booking sites
- Luxury estate agents and property developers
- Architects and interior designers specialising in residential builds
- Wedding and event venues hosted in villa properties
- Concierge and property management services
Things to know:
- Unrestricted — anyone, anywhere can register, with no requirement to actually own a villa.
- Operated by Identity Digital, one of the largest new gTLD registries.
- Some short, generic or location-based names (e.g. tuscany, ibiza) may be classed as premium by the registry and carry higher registration and renewal fees.
- Standard ICANN policies apply, including the 60-day transfer lock after registration.

Frequently asked questions about .villa
Anyone, anywhere. The .villa registry imposes no eligibility checks, ownership requirements or geographic restrictions. You do not need to own or rent out an actual villa to register the domain. It is open to individuals, sole traders and businesses of any size, in any country, on a first-come first-served basis.
You can register a .villa for between one and ten years in single-year increments at the point of order. You can renew at any point during the registration term to extend it, up to the ten-year maximum permitted by the registry. We will send renewal reminders well before expiry so you do not lose the name accidentally.
Yes. You will need to unlock the domain at your current registrar and obtain the EPP authorisation code, then start the transfer with us. The transfer extends your registration by one year on top of the existing expiry date. Note that domains registered or previously transferred within the last 60 days cannot be moved due to ICANN rules.
After expiry there is a grace period of around 30 days during which you can renew at the standard price. After that the domain enters a redemption period of roughly 30 days, where recovery is possible but incurs a registry redemption fee. Once that ends the name is released back to the public pool and anyone may register it.
Yes. The .villa registry permits WHOIS privacy, and we offer free privacy protection on eligible domains so your personal name, address, email and phone number are not exposed in public WHOIS lookups. Privacy can be toggled on and off from your control panel at any time during the registration.
