Edwards Jewellery: Uncovering the Expertise Behind the Business
Anne asked for an e-commerce website to replace a perfectly presentable Wix site. Talking to her uncovered a much stronger proposition: a specialist bench jeweller who works personally with clients to create, restore and transform jewellery.

At a glance
- Client
- Edwards Jewellery, the business of Anne, a specialist bench jeweller
- Original idea
- A new e-commerce website to replace a Wix site
- What changed
- Conversations with Anne uncovered expertise the old site never showed
- What we did
- Discovery, positioning, content strategy, the design and build of the platform, hosting and ongoing support
The hidden problem
This wasn't a rescue job. The problem was quieter: the site didn't show Anne. It presented a jewellery business, but not a specialist who makes, repairs and remodels jewellery with her own hands.
Listening first
The project started with conversation rather than a template: what customers bring to her, what she makes and repairs, how a commission unfolds, and where she meets the people who buy from her. The value turned out to be more than "buy jewellery online". It was working directly with a skilled jeweller to create, restore or transform something personal.
- Bespoke work. Engagement rings, wedding bands and one-off pieces, designed with the customer and made by Anne.
- Repair and restoration. Bringing worn and damaged pieces back into use.
- Remodelling what people already own. Inherited jewellery nobody wears any more, turned into something new. The old site barely touched this, yet it best captured what makes the business different.
Turning expertise into positioning
Each kind of work now has its own page, so someone remodelling their mother's ring finds a page that speaks directly to them. The content is written in the first person as Anne, based on those conversations, with her own changes made before launch. AI helped turn the notes into readable pages, but the discovery and the facts came first.
What we built
- Events and wedding fairs. Anne meets many customers in person. That wasn't in the original brief, so we recommended it once we understood how she finds clients. She adds events herself, and the site tells people where she will be.
- An online shop. Ready-made pieces can be bought through Stripe's secure checkout, with stock and discount codes managed by Anne.
- An easy way to start a commission. Customers can book a consultation, or send an enquiry saying what they want, including redesigning an heirloom.
- A private client area. Clients can see their orders and keep a message thread with Anne, with photos of the piece they want to work on.
- One admin for the whole business. Enquiries, orders, products, portfolio, reviews, events and messages are all in one place, with a drafting assistant for the Journal. Nothing is published until Anne has reviewed it.
Could this work for your business?
Anne asked for an online shop. What her business needed was a way to show the specialist behind it, and a platform shaped around how she works with customers. If you're planning a new website, it's worth starting with a conversation about how your business finds and serves customers.
